Someone drives, other families book
A trip is published by a driver: they set where they leave from, where they're going, the day, the time and how many seats they offer. The other families search for compatible trips and book a seat for their child.
You can do both depending on the day: offer a seat when it's your turn to drive and book in another family's car when it isn't.
What it takes into account to show you a trip
Origin and destination
The search compares where you leave from and where you're going with each trip's route, to show you the ones that really bring you close to your destination.
Pickup stops along the way
A trip fits even if your origin isn't the driver's departure point: if their route passes near you via a stop, it also shows up.
Day and time
It shows the trips on the day you're looking for and with a time compatible with yours, for the outbound leg, the return leg or both.
Within your group or community
In groups and clubs you see the trips of that community's families; that way you organise the turns among people who already know each other.
Publishing a trip, step by step

Set your route
You choose origin, destination, day and time. You can publish just the outbound, just the return or both.

Offer your seats
You set how many free seats you have. You don't set the price: the cost split is calculated automatically from the trip's distance.
- You don't need the Plus Plan to charge the cost split: you just need to be verified as a driver where it's required.
- The Plus Plan also lets you create and organise trips within groups and clubs, which can be free between families.

Receive bookings
Families book their seats and you coordinate the pickup point and time from the app's chat.

Search for your trip
You set where you leave from and where you're going; the search shows you the compatible trips, including pickup stops along the way.

Book your child's seat
You choose the trip that fits you and book the seat. The cost is worked out purely by distance.
- You can also book a seat for yourself as an adult on the same trip, not just for your child.

Follow and confirm
You coordinate the pickup via chat, follow the trip on the map while it's under way and confirm attendance.
And how do you pay?
The cost of each trip is split between the families by distance, on top of the subscription. It isn't charged trip by trip: your shares add up and are charged together. We explain it in depth in the guide to the Plus Plan and trip charging.
What's asked most
Can I share adult trips, without children?
Yes. Besides the trips to take the kids, there's Adults Mode: trips for adults travelling on their own —to work, to university or to an event—. You can create them and book a seat just like the kids' ones, but they stay completely separate: an adult trip is never mixed with the school route. You'll find more on the Kidstoride Adults page.
Do I have to drive to use Kidstoride?
No. You can use it just to book a seat in other families' cars. Driving is optional and you decide when you offer seats.
Do trips show up if I don't leave from the same point as the driver?
Yes. The search takes pickup stops along the way into account: if the driver's route passes near you, the trip shows up even if their departure point is another.
Can I book just the return?
Yes. Trips distinguish outbound and return: you can offer or book just the outbound, just the return or both, whichever suits you that day.
Do I need the Plus Plan to book?
To book and organise your family's trips within groups and clubs you need the Plus Plan. To charge as a driver on public trips you don't: you just need to be verified where it's required. You'll find the details in the Plus Plan guide.
How do I know where the trip is going?
While the trip is under way you can follow it on the map in real time. That location is temporary and isn't stored; we explain it in the safety and privacy guide.
What happens if my child isn't going one day?
You can let everyone know with a tap that they won't travel that day, so the driver knows and the seat is freed up.
